The style of Shotokan ( incidentally the pen name of the late Gichin Funakoshi ) must be one of the most proliferated styles in the world if not THE most proliferated. Old master dies and the younger ones fight over being the boss and only one can be boss so the dissatisfied ones leave and start their own and so on and so on. There's probably nothing wrong with their teaching and they're probably brilliant and good albeit lacking in humility BUT when the driving force behind is a desire for power and of course along with it comes the financial benefits so to speak, isn't that a wee bit off the main track ?
